Android 12 Beta 3 Is Live, Here's What's New With It

Android 12 Beta 3 is finally here, meaning Google is that much closer to releasing the final, stabilized version of the software for users. Since this is the third beta, there's also not as much new stuff as there was with the first beta and the developers releases.

But there are still some new things to enjoy both on the user and developer side of stuff. Notably, on-device search, among other things. Since this is a beta, anyone that has opted into it should be seeing the availability to download and install it. Provided you're using a device that's compatible with the beta.

If you aren't seeing the ability to download the new software, then you can easily check manually. Simply go to the settings and check the update status to see if there's anything for your device. There is a chance of course that the software may not be available right away. So keep checking.

As for what's new, the most notable changes are listed below.

One of the big feature highlights this time around is the scrolling screenshots. You may have already seen this on other Android phones before. But it's now being added into the stock Android experience. Which means Pixel phones now have the ability to use the feature natively.

When capturing scrolling content, there will be a new button on the screen just below the image of the screenshot that says "capture more" on it. Tapping that will let you adjust what the screenshot includes, with a cropping tool that you can drag to extend the screenshot beyond its normal save state.

This allows you to extend it as far as it will go or find a nice stopping point if you don't want the fully extended version of the image. Google says this will work out-of-the-box for most apps. So there may be some apps that users come across which don't support it. Developers can however bake this in by using Google's new ScrollCapture API.

Play As You Download for games

Earlier this week, Google announced the Play As You Download feature for games that was coming in Android 12. This feature lets users start a game download from Google Play, and then begin playing it before the game is fully installed.

Users will get their first taste of this feature with Android 12 Beta 3. This should be available for any game on Google Play.

The Game Dashboard won't be appearing as part of this release, but Google says it's coming later this year. So it's either being saved for a later beta, or for the official release of Android 12.

Auto rotate has been improved and now works faster

While not the most exciting change in this release, it'll surely be a nice quality of life improvement for many. Auto rotate never really worked all that slow. But Google saw the need for improvements, and has implemented them.

So with the third beta Auto Rotate will now work faster and better than before. It now includes face detection to more accurately recognize when the screen should be rotated. Which Google says should work especially well for people who are laying down while looking at their device.

For this beta, improved Auto Rotate will only be available on the Pixel 4 and any Pixel devices that have come after.

Remaining change highlights include on-device search and more

Google is amping up the on-device search capabilities with this beta release. Noting that the software now includes a new "high-performance on-device search engine." It's capable of indexing structured data and it has built-in full-text search capabilities.

For users, this just means that apps will now allow you to search them for data stored within that app. In addition to on-device search, this release also includes camera and microphone toggles configurable for enterprises. As well as the final APIs and SDK, and a couple of other developer-focused features.

ОКР предупреждает спортсменов, что запросы СМИ по злободневным темам "могут носить провокационный характер", а неосторожный ответ потом "крайне негативно скажется на спортсмене".

По мнению ОКР, в случае вопросов на политические темы самый простой вариант поведения — отказаться от комментариев. Крым, Донбасс и другие подобные темы олимпийцам рекомендовано вообще не обсуждать, поскольку "спорт должен оставаться вне политики".

Про допинговые скандалы спортсменам положено говорить, что лично они в них не участвовали, а санкции за допинг должны комментировать те, кто их вводил.

В ОКР считают, что спортсменам также будут задавать вопросы по поводу того, что Всемирное антидопинговое агентство запретило им пользоваться национальной символикой. На это им велели отвечать, что они все равно представляют свою родину и это большая честь, хотя им и хотелось бы слышать российский гимн — это всегда очень эмоциональный момент. Россияне будут выступать на Олимпиаде под флагом ОКР, а вместо российского гимна будет проигрываться Первый концерт Петра Чайковского.

Об отношении к американскому движению Black Lives Matter россиянам рекомендуют говорить, что это личное дело каждого, но при этом Олимпиада "не должна становиться площадкой для каких–либо акций и жестов".

О харрасменте россияне должны говорить, что сами с этим не сталкивались, но знают, что "такая проблема существует во многих странах" и спортивный мир с этим справится.

Относительно активности в соцсетях в документе говорится, что в ОКР уже получали сигналы о столкновении спортсменов с "буллингом со стороны пользователей". Олимпийцев предупреждают, что информация, появившаяся в соцсетях даже на секунду, распространяется очень быстро: "Тщательно и внимательно относитесь к тому, что вы пишете, какие фото выкладываете, ставите лайки или оставляете комментарии". Кроме того, им напоминают, что с 14 июля по 11 августа они не могут участвовать в рекламных кампаниях неолимпийских спонсоров.

Как отмечает источник "Ведомостей", близкий к ОКР, на предыдущих Олимпиадах российским спортсменам подобных инструкций не давали."

TIFU by suggesting to my wife how she could finally stop nursing

Daughter is almost 2 and a voracious nurser. She'll latch on and stay on through the night and often throughout the day. My wife and I both feel it's excessive and have tried different methods to ween her off nursing, or at least slow her down. Nothing seems to work. For context, my boy is 5 and was done with it at 1.5yrs old, It seemed like a very easy and natural step for him,

Different story for my little girl.

My wife is exhausted by it, we're not having more kids so she often blurts out she's so "done with it" and "wants to cut them off".

Yikes.

I've suggested some other methods and even prepared bottles for her but she (my daughter) isn't having any of it. I'll even get up at 2, 4 and 5am to give her cups of milk. No go.

Today seemed like a breaking point for my wife, she lashed out with a "leave me alone" to my girl who was really clawing at her shirt. Oh my.

I feel a little hopeless in this whole situation but I thought I had a clever stroke - and mistakenly suggested it:

"Why don't you rub habanero sauce on your nipples *snicker*"

She jumped up, ran to the fridge and I thought "no way".

I went to see what she was doing and, sure enough, standing there with the fridge door wide open, my wife was rubbing my hot sauce all over her nipples

"Dear, you're not serious. I was kidding. That stuff is *really* nasty hot."

"I have to do something." And I have to admit she really seems at her wits end but this seems.. Harsh.

I'm now pleading with her to try different ideas, she can't be serious. But now my wife is dancing around the kitchen "OUCH! OUCH! PSSSHHHTT! HOTTT!!! HOLYSHIT! OW! OW! OWWW!" Half-laughing, she eventually "cool's off" but this goes on for a while and I'm trying not to laugh but she looks ridiculous bouncing around the kitchen clutching her boobs.

Later on, we're curled up on the couch watching a show and, right on cue, my girl wants to nurse. My wife let her latch on. I'm watching because I'm freaked out, witnessing a slow-mo train wreck, and my wife has an actual grin on her face.

It didn't go well.

My daughter pulled back in horror and is now afraid to go near mommy's boobs. I had to rescue her and brought her to get a glass of milk. She tried again recently but thought better of it, taking a sniff instead and abandoning hope.

What have I done?

My wife feels like she has a huge victory. I feel like I've witnessed the birth of a supervillain.

TL;DR Foolishly suggested my wife rub hot sauce on her boobs to stop our daughter from constantly nursing.

UPDATE: We're having lots of fun reading through all the comments, lots of laughs and love here, thanks everyone.

I took another shot at being 'clever' again and suggested, as we're cuddled on the couch - that, as payback, to avenge my daughter, I'd dip my BEEPBOOP in hotsauce so mommy could get a taste of her own medicine.

We laughed for a moment but then quickly realized that's just a scorched-earth / nobody wins scenario.

No more hotsauce anywhere for a long while...
