In the world of natural fabrics, there is one that has been protecting the health of people of various professions for many years. It is super-dense, smooth, like a polished material-moleskin . Consisting only of pure cotton, the fabric is beautiful, durable, and has a high density.

At the beginning of the last century, Moleskin was strongly associated with people of unusual professions. This black, thick, and shiny fabric was used to make aviators 'and drivers' jumpsuits, and every tomboy's dream was to wear trousers made of moleskin "damn leather", which was almost impossible to tear. And after undergoing special processing, the material acquires all the necessary qualities to become indispensable in the manufacture of work clothes.

At present, the mention of "devil's skin" remains only in old books, and moleskin occupies a worthy place in the series of fabrics for special clothing and military uniforms. However, couturiers do not forget about this natural and durable fabric, and from time to time fashion collections show coats and jackets made of this shiny, dense and absolutely natural material.

What is moleskin?

Judging by the English name - "mole skin" (mole-mole, and skin-skin), the amazing material was first obtained in England, a country famous for its ancient weaving traditions. Its task was to ensure the safety of work in dusty, chemical, nuclear or flammable enterprises. In Russia, however, it received the unofficial ironic name of "devil's skin" - for its black color, shiny surface and unusual density.

Material Features

Moleskin is made from cotton with a reinforced, super-dense satin weave. At the same time, overlaps are added to the web, strengthening the connections of the warp and weft threads. The material acquires special qualities.

Sometimes moleskin is subjected to naping, and it gets the name moleskin-cloth. It is painted in a dark, most often black color, and also bleached. For summer and demi-season military uniforms, moleskin fabric of camouflage colors is produced.

To give it a characteristic shine, which makes it look attractive, the fabric is treated with a solution of ammonia.

The modern moleskin has significant differences from its original. In the course of its production, thinner heavy-duty threads are used and synthetic fibers are added, which allows such a strong, wear-resistant fabric to be made lighter and thinner. Moleskin is precisely the material that provides excellent protection against the smallest particles of dust, radioactive and biological substances. Thanks to its perfectly smooth surface, dust, chips, scale, and metal particles that arise during production simply roll off its surface. Such matter can be impregnated with various special solutions, which provides a high degree of protection against fire, chemical reactions. White moleskin is used for the manufacture of clothing, which is necessary for working in areas of high radiation. In addition, the modern fabricoleskin was developed taking into account the fact that the workwear sewn from it will be used in quite difficult production conditions, so, in addition to excellent protection and its strength, the fabric can boast of its comfort in wearing, efficiency in cleaning and a long service life. An important advantage of this material is its low cost.

This material is still considered one of the best solutions for protecting humans from harmful microparticles – mechanical, radioactive and biological.

Moleskin is very highly flammable and resistant to acids.
