В настоящей статье автор не претендует на полное освещение всех вопросов, связанных с историей, униформой, снаряжением и структурой русской армейской кавалерии, а лишь попытался кратко рассказать о видах униформы в 1907-1914 г.г. Желающие более углубленно познакомиться с униформой, бытом, нравами и традициями русской армейской кавалерии могут обратиться к первоисточникам, приведенным в списке литературы к настоящей статье.
В начале XX века русская кавалерия считалась одной из самых боеспособных в мире. По воспоминаниям князя В. Трубецкого (служившего в Лейб-гвардии Ея Императорского Величества императрицы Александры Федоровны кирасирском полку) и германского военного историка генерала фон Позека, даже сильная (также одна из лучших в мире) германская кавалерия предпочитала не принимать атак русской кавалерии. То же касается и австрийской.
В 1908-1914 г.г. русская армейская кавалерия состояла из 57 регулярных полков, и подразделялась на драгун (21 полк), гусар (18 полков) и улан (17 полков) плюс Крымский Конный Ея Императорского Величества императрицы Александры Федоровны полк ( автор затрудняется отнести его к каким-либо из перечисленных видов кавалерии).
Три кавалерийский полка с одинаковым номером и казачий полк составляли соответствующую дивизию (например, 12 кавалерийская дивизия: 12-й драгунский Стародубовский полк, 12-й уланский Белгородский, 12-й гусарский Ахтырский и 12-й казачий полк (в отношении казачьих полков это правило выполнялось не всегда.
Организационно кавалерийский полк состоял из двух дивизионов, дивизион из двух либо трех эскадронов, эскадрон из четырех взводов, взвод в свою очередь делился на трехрядные отделения.
Униформа мирного времени состояла из парадной, повседневной, служебной и летней форм (бальная форма была положена только в гвардии).
Итак, драгуны.
"Со словом "драгун" соединяются два понятия: первоначальное - пехота, посаженная на коней, и современное - кавалерия, способная действовать в пешем строю"

Само название « драгун » по укоренившейся среди историков версии относится к середине XVI века, когда французский маршал Бриссак посадил отборных пехотинцев на коней и дал им знамена с изображением драконов. От этих знамен и произошло название « драгун ». Но существует также и другая версия, что свое название эти полки получили от своего оружия - « драгона », короткого мушкета. Из французского языка « драгун » было заимствовано русскими, когда в 1631 году был образован первый драгунский полк в русской армии. Первый опыт оказался неудачным.
По-настоящему за организацию драгунских полков взялся лишь Петр Первый. При нем русская кавалерия состояла из одних драгун. Собственно, это были обычные пехотные солдаты, для большей мобильности передвигавшиеся на конях, и спешивавшиеся перед атакой. Таким образом действовали русские драгуны в знаменитом сражении при Лесной.
В дальнейшем численность драгунских полков в русской армии сокращалась в пользу появившихся кирасир, улан, гусар, конных егерей. Но все же в 1812 году в русской армии насчитывалось 36 драгунских полков.
В 1882 году процесс пошел в обратную сторону - все армейские уланские и гусарские (а еще раньше и кирасирские) полки были переформированы и переименованы в драгунские.
Это вызвало резкий протест кавалерийских офицеров и массовый их уход из армии (вряд ли кто-то хотел сменить шикарный гусарский ментик и доломан на драгунский полупехотный мундир). Необходимо отметить, что в это время, с введением императором Александром III « народной » формы упал престиж офицерской службы вообще.

In regiments # 17 and 18 on the left and right on the chest are six-socket gazyrs (napatronniki), 10.5 cm long and 7.3 cm high made of uniform cloth, the base of the nest is crimson cloth. Under cartridge belts Welt pockets uniformed cloth with red cloth lining. The gazyrs are covered with a 1.4 cm wide St. George ribbon at the top and bottom of the lower ranks, and a crimson cord at the top. Officers ' gazyrs are covered with Caucasian braid on the device with a crimson lumen. In gazyryakh officers have six wooden bushings with gilded or silvered heads, connected by a chain with plaques of the Caucasian sample. The lower ranks do not have chains and the gas cartridges are put into the cartridges from rifle cartridges, protruding by 1.2 cm.

In regiments # 2,4,6,8,9,10,12,13,14, as in the former cuirassiers, they wore collets. The lower ranks had single-breasted black collars, trimmed at the top of the collar and on the sides with edged braid, the middle of which is yellow or white (according to the device), and on the edges of the thread border according to the color of the shoulder strap.
In the Order's regiment, the middle of the ribbon is of St. George's colors, and the thread border is white. The collar is rounded, 5.6 cm high, white with a flap in the color of the shoulder strap. The order's valve is black with a Golden flaming grenade. Valve width 3.4 cm, length 7.9-9 cm. Buttonholes (who should be) double white 2.3 cm wide, 3.4-3.6 cm long, each with a button. Pocket flaps straight edged in the color of the shoulder strap, had two buttons .
The officer's jacket is made of dark green cloth (in the Pereyaslavsky regiment-black with a black velvet flap on the collar). Instead Kamchatka lace is lace width 2.8 cm, whose center of sword of the galloon on the device, and the edges of the thread rim width 0.6 cm color of the ring. The order has a Golden George braid in the middle and a white thread border.
