GOD OF WAR                                            JEFF ROVIN

The passengers and crew on an Airbus en route to Australia suddenly begin coughing up blood and hemorrhaging violently as the plane plunges to the ground. There are no survivors.

A luxury yacht in the South Indian Sea blows up, and a lone woman escapes the contagion that has inexplicably killed everyone else on the boat.

A helicopter whose occupants have been stricken by an unknown illness crashes into a bridge in South Africa, killing motorists and pedestrians.

The world is facing a devastating bio-terror event, and a game of brinksmanship gets underway as the major powers jockey for position: China sends a naval flotilla to seek the source of the plague and find a way to weaponize it; Russia maneuvers quietly on the sidelines to seize the deadly prize in its quest to regain an empire; while back in Washington D.C., Chase Williams and his top-secret Black Wasp special ops team must find out who is behind these deadly attacks before war is unleashed.

What is the secret linking an illegal diamond mining operation, a controversial cure for AIDS, an apartheid-era conspiracy to cover up attempted genocide, and a brilliant but utterly amoral entrepreneur with a score to settle? Black Wasp mounts an ingenious attack on two fronts, from the storm-tossed seas off South Africa to an edge-of-the seat-chase as they seek to find the truth behind this lethal disease before millions of innocent lives are lost.

PAT'S REVIEW

It has been many years since I have read a Tom Clancy book. Now this one is similar to what we are going through right now. A virus is being spread, or plague with a stay at home orders, and of course there is someone is going to get to the bottom of this. At times this was fast-paced high drama. Other times I found it slow, maybe it was me I don't know. What I do know was that reading this book was or felt a lot like what we are going through now or at least that is how I took it. With that, it was at times like living the story on the pages. Though I could find fault with some of the book I think because the story is so close to what is going on now it only enhances the story. Overall a good. I received this book from Netgalley. com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

thumbnailA Guy Like Me: The John Scott Story
Apr 28th 2020, 17:33, by 1Rad-Reader59 Reviews

A GUY LIKE ME                                        JOHN SCOTT

The John Scott story is the ultimate underdog narrative in sports during 2016 when Scott—in the twilight of his career—went from a joke All-Star fan-voted nominee to scoring two goals and winning the All-Star Game's MVP title. This is his heartwarming story about an average Joe who became a sports superhero overnight.

Known as a willing-and-able fighter and bruiser in the league, John Scott was a surprising and tongue-and-cheek nominee for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game. He'd been in the league for over eight NHL seasons, playing for teams such as the Wild, Blackhawks, Rangers, Sabres, and the Sharks. Scott's best attribute as an NHL player was dropping his gloves—never the best player, the 260 pounder did become the most feared fighter in the NHL, racking up extensive penalty minutes. In order to prevent him from playing in the game, his current team—the Phoenix Coyotes—traded Scott to the Montreal Canadians, who demoted him to the AHL team in an attempt to disqualify him from playing in the All-Star Game. Fans were outraged and Scott was devastated. He'd been downgraded in his job—forced to relocate while his wife was pregnant with twin girls. But the fans wouldn't back down and insisted the NHL let Scott play in the game. The league relented, and Scott not only was invited to attend the NHL game in Nashville, but was nominated a team captain. The media and sports fans at large fell in love with the giant six-foot-eight player who by all means, was just a normal guy and no superstar player. In a true Cinderella story, Scott scored two goals and was the All-Star Game's MVP. This is his personal memoir—detailing his life growing up and how he was able to keep his sense of humor and become the ultimate Cinderella-Story of hockey.

PAT'S REVIEW

A book about John Scott who in 2016 was a nominee to the NHL All-Star game and the league office and some others wanted him to decline in going. He was even traded from Phoenix to Montreal and then sent down to the minors. All of this while his wife was pregnant with twin girls ready to deliver any time.
The book opens with his childhood and how he got into playing hockey. He also talks about his home life and about his brothers and how both his mother and father have been there for him always. He takes you through his young life up to him going to college and his beginning to play for the college team. He also goes through all of his attempts in trying to date the woman who would eventually become his wife. That was just one part of the story that was funny. He also talks about a time when he was in an accident while he was in college and how it was, he was responsible for it and it made him start to look at things differently in his life.
You then get a look into his career as a hockey player first in the minors then finally making it to the NHL, playing for the Minnesota Wild. He goes into his reasoning for having enforcers still in the game which I agree with. You get a good look at his career and his marriage. A look at the game through a player's eyes and not a star eye. I did not understand what Mike Millbury has against him.
When you finally get to the end of the book, he takes you through the whole All-Star fiasco and how he finally played the game and became the MVP of the game. Of course, afterward, the NHL changed the voting so fans won't vote just a player to the game and not a star, though I thought part of that part of the game was for the fans? I must be wrong go figure. I found this to be a good book and very much worth the read for any fan. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

TEMPER                                                     CHANTAL FERNANDO

Every year, the hot, tatted biker comes into Abbie's bar, orders whiskey, and asks her out. Every year, Abbie turns him down. After all, dating a man that goes by Temper seems like a really bad idea, no matter how attracted she is to him.

But this year is different. Abbie's different. Older, wiser, and tired of being stuck behind the bar in a sleepy town. This year, she's ready for whatever adventure the sexy but sweet biker has in store for her.

Or so she thinks…until an elegant candlelit dinner ends with a dead body.

Now Abbie finds herself on the ride of her life, whisked away to the big city in Temper's protective custody. She should be scared, but—despite his nickname—it's clear the last thing Temper would ever do is hurt a hair on her head. And when danger catches up with them, Abbie soon realizes that holding tight to her man while straddling a Harley may be the safest place of all.

PAT'S REVIEW

Abbie has been running the family bar for years. Every year she has flirted with a biker who has come in occasionally named Temper. He is now wearing the president patch on his cut and has for the last few times has come in. Temper who has taken over the president of the Knight's of Fury MC has had his eye on Abbie for years and every time he has asked her out for a date, she has turned him down she now has finally said yes.
The date goes good even better than she was thinking it would, that is until the end when he gets a call and everything goes downhill. With her being a witness to a death she is then kidnapped by his crew and she is pissed. Upset because her mother is sick and this only leaves her sister to run the bar. She has been led to believe by her mother that still at the age of 29 she needs to be at home and nowhere else.
Though I had small issues with book overall the story was good. She forgives Temper and the time she spends with the club turns out good for all especially for her being away from her mother and she also finds out who her father is. There a lot going on once you get into this book and for that it keeps you going with the story and wanting to continue to read it to see what happens. A book. FLYING GOLD                                          VANESSA NORTH

American Heavy Metal is Tiffani Ellis's sanctuary, or at least it was before her dad died. Being in charge means her own dreams are firmly on the back burner. Now she spends as much time fixing problems as she does the cars she loves. She's already struggling to find her feet; the last thing she needs is the man who broke her heart showing up at her shop with a car he doesn't deserve to touch, much less own.

Matt Adams left town, moved to the west coast, and became a big shot. But his passion for cars never waned, and neither did his regret over how things ended with Tiffani. Now he's back, his dream car in tow. He's gearing up for a big race, he needs help and he knows exactly where to find it.

Tiffani won't turn down a paying job, but working with Matt stirs up feelings best left buried. What was left behind them is irresistible, but it doesn't take long to realize that a few hot nights will never be enough. Sex is easy, but forgiveness is not…

PAT'S REVIEW

Here you have the second book in the Heavy Metal series. Now this story still has the family and you do find out what happens from the end of the last book. It opens though with a man in Georgia buying a Chevelle. On his way to where he will be filming a show for Netflix, it stalls and ends up towing it to Heavy Metal. The man just happens to be the boy or man who broke Tiffani's heart ten years ago in high school, Matt Adams who is now an award-winning filmmaker.
Tiffani does not want to deal with the car once she sees the name but really is forced to because Duke is still in the hospital and she is the only one who can run a diagnostic on it. After getting another ticket she still does not find anything wrong with it when she is forced to deal with Matt herself. It is when they are together on a drive when the car stalls that he still wants to talk about the past and she does not.
She is not only dealing with her emotions from ten years ago but also in wanting to sell the family home which she has been living in since their father has died. She also was the one who took care of him as well. Her you really get a look into the workings of the family but also her feelings with loss, grief, anger everything one experiences when losing someone. Then having to deal with Matt on top of everything adds to her stress. The author does a good job of handling everything and this is really a very good story and she even brings in racing which I thought was a good touch. A wonderful book. HARD JUSTICE                                        PAMELA CLARE

Elizabeth Shields has always craved adventure. That's why she went to work for the CIA straight out of college. That's probably also the reason she feels drawn to Quinn McManus, a veteran of the British Special Air Service. The big Scotsman gives off a dangerous vibe that she can't resist. Yet, resist she must. She and Quinn both work for Cobra International Security, which has a strict policy against hook-ups between employees, and she's too much of a professional to date a coworker. Quinn McManus escaped a life of poverty by joining the British Army. His fellow soldiers became his family, forging a bond stronger than blood. Now, with his best friend dead, he needs Elizabeth's special skills to help track down the killer. He has no intention of getting physical with her. Rules are rules. But as their unofficial investigation heats up, so does the attraction between them. Still, he refuses to surrender. But some battles can't be won, and soon the passion between Quinn and Elizabeth ignites, hot enough to melt the cold Glasgow winter. LACE AND LIES                                       MELANIE MUNTON

We are the Rossetti's.
The exiled "sixth family" of the New York mafia. We're the good guys.
People don't fear us…much. They respect us.
The five of us? We're the Brooklyn Brothers.
And we protect what's ours.

Jasmine Kingston should run from me. I mean, she should literally pick up her dress, toss away her heels, and haul ass in the complete opposite direction. Because for the last few months that she's been in New York and taking the fashion world by storm, I've been watching her. From my ivory tower, from the shadows. Wherever she's been, I've been only feet away, and she hasn't even realized it.

Until now.

I can't stay away and watch one more man take his shot with her. She needs to know what she's doing to me. Especially since things are heating up with my family's enemies. I just pray those enemies don't discover my only weakness.
Maybe it was the wrong way to go. Maybe I should never have touched her. Never treated myself to her addictive taste. But I can't alleviate this obsession I have with her any more than I can put a bullet between my own eyes.

She's mine to protect now.
I'll burn my entire fortune to the ground and take ten of those bullets before I let anything happen to her.

I just hope she doesn't find out what I've done.

PAT'S REVIEW'S

The book opens with Chris who is supposed to be part of the sixth family of the Mafia that no one knows about. He has been watching fashion designer Jasmine King. Which when he got into describing it sounded like stalking but that is just me. Anyway, when she has a malfunction with her dress, he helps with it. There is the met cute.
He then gets her to agree to go out on a date with him and eventually they begin to spend more time together. Here is when the story changes for men are after him yet take her. You can figure out the rest. The action scenes are okay and when the two of them are together they are good as well. I found this to be an okay book maybe I was looking for more, but it was a quick read. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

THE LAST HEIST                                     SAMANTHA KIETH

After decades of stealing, Milo Baxter is finally free and making an honest living. But no amount of hard work can break the chains that bind him to Serena Metcalf. Years have passed, but when she shows up in his bar, he knows he's never stopped loving her—even though he forced her out of his life twice.

Having been raised as a criminal, Serena never dreamed she'd climb to the top of San Diego's number-one real estate agency. Then a car accident results in a life-or-death chase through the city, and she flees to Milo's bar for safety. Their past blows up in her face, but before she can leave, she gets a devastating call: her sister's been kidnapped.

Milo's the only one who can help her with one last heist—lifting diamonds from her new potential client for her sister's ransom. The clock is ticking, and Serena isn't the only one with something to lose. Both she and Milo could lose their hearts, but first, they must fight to not lose their lives.

PAT'S REVIEW

I am back and forth with this review. First, you have Milo who has given up the life of crime, that is until Serena walks into his bar. You then are taken back through their time together as thieves and when he was working for the other side and while she and her sister were trying to do a robbery he was there. You then have Serena now working as a real a state agent and after an accident, her whole life is turned upside down.
Her sister has been kidnaped and she is now given a job to do if not done her sister will be killed. This is how she goes to the bar where Milo is at. Though neither thought they would have seen the other one again Milo knows something is up as soon as she walks in., she actually thought that they would have a life together, yet here they are years later. First, they must get past the past in order to deal with the future in saving her sister. Once you get into the meat of the story the action begins to pick up and it becomes a faster read than the beginning of the book. Overall a good book. PAT'S REVIEW

Grace has moved to Las Vegas after being left at the altar three years ago. Working at putting her life back together she has a group of friends that have helped her in that process. Now Logan who has always just stood by and watched has decided to make his move. It begins when Grace happens to run into her ex with his new wife. He is wanting to meet up with Grace for coffee when Logan comes up and makes like they are a couple. Afterward, when they go to a friend's house for a party, he is still wanting them to be together, but she is confused about them and her feelings.
When someone begins to threaten both of them when they are together, they must spend more time together and this only confuses her more. She does not understand why Logan would want to be with her and she still does not feel like he is the get married and have kids type of guy. The more they are put together because of the threat the more they get to talk and other things. I found this to be a fast book and a good story with a little suspense. ASKING FOR TROUBLE                        AMY ANDREWS

Who better to play wingman to a girl getting her groove back than a smoking-hot cowboy? Find out in the third book in the Credence, Colorado series.

PAT'S REVIEW

I received this book for an honest review. Della has now been living with her half brother Arlo for three years. He saved her from an abusive relationship in Pennsylvania. Married at seventeen after she found out she was pregnant she had a positive outlook on life. Losing the child to a miscarriage and then being locked away by her husband and also abused her outlook soon was bleak and dim. Her life was dark and she had nowhere to turn.
One day she was saved by a man who said he was her half-brother. She knew of her father's name from her mother so what he was saying made sense. Her husband was soon arrested on other charges and sentenced where he ended up dying one day in prison when he fell down a flight of stairs.
Feeling like it is time to get back into the living she has decided to start going on some dates. Not wanting to involve her brother who also is the local sheriff, she has asked Tucker who is the local bartender at Lumberjack's, he owns the place. He helps her with some of the acronyms that are being used to where she finally agrees on a date. Later needing a ride to another town for the date Tucker is the one who takes her and then waits for her across the street. The first date does not go so well. She does find herself liking the time that she spends with Tucker though.
He then agrees to teach her how to drive. It is during this one of these sessions that he agrees to be her wingman, also the attraction he feels for her draws him to kiss her. That kiss and another one, one night after one of her not so good dates has lit a flame of passion inside of her that she finds is only lit when she is around Tucker. Now she must get him to see past his best friends' sister and the age difference that he keeps putting up. Maybe she will have a better chance by moving out on her own and away from her brother's prying eyes. Also, a trip to a sex shop gives her a new look on life as well. This was a fun book at times with good characters. A good read. Just a little slow at times or I would have given it 5 stars. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Especially under the watch of a beautiful family friend enlisted to make sure every laptop under the sun stays closed.

All Andie has to do is convince a handsome billionaire to take a deep breath? It should be a dream for the bohemian travel writer. If Noah - a workhorse so resistant to change - weren't spoiling for a fight. But no matter how hard Noah pushes her away, Andie is pushing back. She promised she'd teach Noah to embrace every pleasure in life. It's a promise she made to herself once, too.

What begins as a battle of wills becomes a chance for Noah and Andie to open their hearts and share their fears. Night after intimate night. It's the last thing they expected from Cancún, and it's what they need the most. Even if it isn't supposed to be forever.

PAT'S REVIEW

Book number four is about the oldest Noah who has worked and worked his entire life since the day in the hospital room with his mother when he was eighteen and she was dying. Soon after she passes, he takes on the responsibility of finishing raising his siblings. With the youngest, Owen now finished and a doctor he should be enjoying himself and taking time for himself. Instead, he is still working like he always is every day always. In the last book, his siblings gave him a vacation to Cancún. The biggest problem is that he still has not taken the trip.
Andie has been friends with Owen since third grade and they have been through a lot together. But they are just friends. With her travel blog, she enjoys traveling, and also eating trying the different foods is also enjoyable for her as well. This all goes on her blog.
Now Owen has talked her to help Owen with him to take his trip which she agrees. It does not take her long to see the Noah is attached to his computer and she comes up with a way to get him to detach from it. Slowly she works at getting him to try new things which also includes food which has him try food that he would have never have thought he would.
The more time they spend together the more the attraction to each other becomes and before they come home, he wants to take it to the next level but she turns him down. It is not until weeks later that they are back in town that Owen tells Andie that she needs to tell Noah about her past. When she does, he begins to understand but still wants to be with her, now he must get her on the same page. A very good book to go along with the other books that I have read and Noah's story along with Andie's really brings this whole picture together as a family with this book. A very good story. All that seems clear from the ground is they're looking for a skilled sniper who is former military.

He will come to discover how one decision can not only haunt us for the rest of our lives, but spread out and have long- and far-reaching repercussions we couldn't even begin to imagine.

Past Deeds will have you joining the FBI in following clues and unraveling the psyche of a killer. This book will make you think and reflect—and you just might wonder if any past decisions you've made are stalking you, ready to strike.

PAT'S REVIEW

A story that opens with a sniper taking out a lawyer and a team of FBI agents are sent to the scene to get to bottom of it. Led by Brandon Fisher he needs to split the team up and you end up going from D.C. to California. Brandon and Paige are dealing with the issue from the past and a deed that they did. While you have that going on you also having the other team also working while you follow them around as well. Then you get a break to the snipper and that point of view. Each one is different and though it jumps around it is done in a way that does not cause problems with the story.
I will say at times I felt the story was a little slow and it did take me a little bit to get into the story but overall it was a good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Autumn has been living with Butch for five years after her brother dropped her off at seventeen and drove away. She is terrified of the president of the club and he uses that to his advantage over her. She stays in fear most of the time.
The beginning of the story is just like that until Camden's cover is blown and Autumn comes and rescues him from where they were hiding him. Then the two of them began living at his grandmother's house. It is here where the story takes a turn and then after a while Autumn takes off to find her brother which only puts her back in the same place as before.
You then are left with them searching for her and still trying to find the drugs. There is also another case he is working on during all of this. This is just a quick read and was just for fun for me. I really did not take anything to serious with this story I looked at it as just a story and it was okay not great. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
